One&Only Gorilla’s Nest commands the finest position of any Volcanoes lodge — set in ancient afromontane forest at the base of the Virunga volcanoes, 10 minutes’ drive from the park gates. The 10 standalone forest cottages are architecturally extraordinary: volcanic stone floors, cathedral ceilings, and fireplaces with locally sourced timber. The central lodge and its volcanic stone fireplace are the social heart of a property that never exceeds 20 guests. The One&Only culinary team produces food at a standard genuinely unexpected in this remote location. Post-trek, the steam room and heated pool with volcano views restore the body completely.
