7-Day Chimpanzees of Mahale & Katavi

Per person, land only. Park fees included where noted.

Day 1 — Arusha or Dar to Katavi. Charter flight west. Afternoon drive across the Katisunga floodplain.

Days 2–3 — Katavi. Full days among the dry-season concentrations: hippo packed into shrinking pools, buffalo herds over a thousand strong, exceptionally large lion prides. Katavi receives fewer visitors in a year than the Serengeti sees in a day.

Day 4 — Katavi to Mahale. Short flight to the shore of Lake Tanganyika, then a boat transfer to camp.

Days 5–6 — Mahale. Chimpanzee tracking on foot through steep forest with the habituated Mimikire group. Afternoons for snorkelling over cichlid reefs or kayaking the shoreline.

Day 7 — Return. Morning boat and flight out.
